Fire standards and fireproof cabinet

Not to be a victim of the ravages of fire!
Understanding fire standards

Standards exist in Switzerland to guarantee the degree of fire resistance of security products.

A safe, strong cabinet or fireproof cabinet approved against fire is recognizable by its certification plate which it carries inside.

This plate gives the product a certified and verified fire resistance time.

Paper: Paper is destroyed as soon as the temperature exceeds 177 ° C.

Media: IT supports deteriorate from 50 ° C.

Fire class: There are 3 classes of fire protection. P for fire protection, D for fire protection of sensitive media and DIS for fire protection of magnetic media.

The different European fire standards:

NT FIRE 017 STANDARD:

Reference standard on the world market. This standard was developed in Scandinavia.

Test methodology:

The product is placed in a high temperature oven for a period of time (60.90 or 120 minutes). At the exit of the oven the interior temperature is controlled so as not to exceed 150 ° C for paper and 30 ° C for magnetic media.

Example of classes:

NT FIRE 017 120 P = 2 hour fire resistance for paper documents.
NT FIRE 017 60 DIS = 1 hour fire resistance for magnetic media.

STANDARD EN 15659 - LFS:

Standard developed by the European laboratory ECB.S. It certifies two protection periods for paper documents: 30 and 60 minutes.

Test methodology:

Identical to standard NT FIRE 017.
Example of classes:

LFS 30 P = 30 minute fire resistance for paper documents.
LFS 60 P = 60 minute fire resistance for paper documents.
STANDARD EN 1047-1:

European standard of German origin. The most severe standard because it requires a drop test during the tests.

Test methodology:

The product is placed in a high temperature oven for a period of time (60.90 or 120 minutes).
At the exit of the oven the product undergoes a fall of 9m15. The product is returned to an oven and must contain heat until the end of the test.

Example of classes:

EN 1047-1 60 P = fire resistance of 60 minutes for paper documents.
EN 1047-1 120 DIS = 2 hour fire resistance for magnetic media.
